Today, we gather to explore the rapidly evolving field of transfusion medicine that has a direct impact on saving lives and improving patient outcomes.
Transfusion medicine plays a pivotal role, particularly in providing life-saving support for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatments, and managing blood disorders- like Thalassemia, SCA, Aplastic Anaemia, MDS, Leukaemias. As we are aware, the importance of safe blood transfusions cannot be understated. Our region, and the broader healthcare community, is in constant need of skilled professionals who can contribute to the safety and efficiency of transfusion practices.
The annual blood requirement in Bangladesh is estimated to be around 800,000 to 1,000,000 units of blood. This demand comes primarily from patients in need of regular transfusions. In this seminar, we aim to uncover the numerous opportunities that this field presents, from clinical applications to modern treatment by plasma, research and innovation. The demand for experts in blood banking, stem cell therapies, plasma medicine, and immunohematology is increasing as healthcare systems continue to expand.
North East Medical College Hospital has always strived to provide the best medical education and healthcare facilities. This seminar is yet another step in that direction—fostering collaboration and discussion among professionals, students, and researchers. Our collective goal is to highlight the potential that transfusion medicine holds for our region and beyond, especially in areas where access to safe blood transfusion services can be challenging.
