CME on Damage Control Interventions.

Sylhet, Bangladesh, October 7, 2024 – A recent CME on Damage Control Interventions (DCI) in obstetric hemorrhage was a resounding success, highlighting the crucial role of this technique in improving patient outcomes.
The presentation, delivered by Dr. Muntasir Alam Rahimi, focused on the challenges of managing massive obstetric hemorrhage, particularly in resource-limited settings. Traditional surgical techniques often prove ineffective in controlling severe bleeding, leading to increased maternal mortality.
DCI, a multidisciplinary approach that involves rapid hemorrhage control, resuscitation, and delayed definitive surgery, has emerged as a vital tool in these situations. By implementing this strategy, healthcare providers can significantly reduce mortality rates and improve patient outcomes.
Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of DCI in managing obstetric hemorrhage. Escobar et al.’s research found that 60% of cases achieved hemostasis in the first surgical intervention, with an overall success rate of 98%. Additionally, the expected mortality rate decreased from 40% to 7% with the use of DCI.
The CME emphasized the importance of integrating DCI into major obstetric hemorrhage management.
Obstetricians and gynecologists need to receive in-depth training on DCI techniques, indications, and coordination with other healthcare professionals. By equipping clinicians with the necessary skills, we can ensure that patients receive timely and effective care, ultimately saving lives.
The CME was attended by a distinguished panel of faculty members from the Department of Gynae & Obs:
